Kybella: Injectable Double Chin Reduction
Kybella is a relatively new, nonsurgical technique used to reduce or eliminate a “double chin” caused by excess “submental’ fat beneath the chin.
Kybella was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2015. In clinical trials Kybella was shown to be very safe and highly effective – with more than 80% of patients reporting significantly improved satisfaction with the appearance of their chin.
Kybella offers a great alternative to surgical fat reduction procedures such as liposuction.
How Kybella Works
Deoxycholic acid is naturally produced by the body to help absorb fat. Kybella is administered by a doctor through a series of synthetic deoxycholic acid injections (“shots”) that target the fat cells in the chin area.
In Kybella injections, the synthetic deoxycholic acid destroys the “submental” fat cells beneath the chin area, so it can’t store fat anymore.
No incisions are required, each treatment only takes about 15 to 20 minutes, and the downtime is very minimal for most patients.
The best candidates for Kybella injections are adults (over 18) with moderate to severe fat beneath the chin.
Kybella Risks and Side Effects
Because Kybella is a non-surgical treatment, any risks and side effects are minimal and very rare when treatment is performed by a board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali.
However, you may not be a good candidate for Kybella, if: you have had or are planning to have facial surgery; you have trouble swallowing; you are pregnant or nursing; or you have an infection or medical condition in or near the face, neck or chin.
Some common side effects include pain, swelling, bruising, redness, and numbness – however these minor side effects typically subside in most patients in a week or two.
The recovery time associated with Kybella injections varies from person to person, but is typically very minimal.
How Many Kybella Treatments are Needed
The number of Kybella treatments you will need varies from patient to patient, and depends upon the amount and location of submental fat. Most patients require more than one treatment. However, in clinical studies, many people achieved visible results after just two to four treatments.
Up to six treatments may be necessary in some cases to achieve the complete desired effect – with at least one month between each session.
However, once the Kybella has killed the fat cells, they will never come back! No further treatment should be needed for the rest of your life, as the chin area can no longer store fat.
Kybella Injections for Double Chin – Birmingham, MI
The best way to determine which double chin treatment is best for you is to discuss your goals with a board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali who offers Kybella, CoolSculpting and Liposuction. Dr. Ali will assess your double chin and help you choose the best treatment for your individual needs.
Be very wary of doctors or clinic that only offer one type of double chin procedure. They may try to steer or pressure you into the one procedure they offer – even if another procedure would be better for you. Only a surgeon like Dr. Ali who offers multiple treatment options can give you the choices you need, so you can chose the double chin treatment that is best for you.
Dr. Ali has helped hundreds of women and men get the jawline they have always wanted with Kybella, CoolSculpting, Liposuction and Neck Lifts at his Birmingham, MI MedSpa and surgical practice.
He will be happy to offer you a consultation to help you understand your options and decide which double chin treatment is right for you. And remember, financing options are also available!
