Botox FAQs
Millions of men and women in the United States get Botox every year to fight wrinkles and lines. Not only is Botox highly effective at making people look younger, it is safe and affordable.
As the Birmingham, Mi area’s leading provider of Botox treatments, we have helped thousands of individuals achieve a more smooth and youthful appearance with Botox injections. In this article board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali answers some of our patients most commonly asked questions about Botox.

How do I pick the best Botox doctor or spa?
Botox was originally only administered by skilled plastic surgeons or dermatologists. But today, other providers – including spas and salons and doctors who give injections “on the side” – also offer Botox treatment.
While Botox injections are common and relatively routine, the treatment still needs to be done by a trained and experienced medical professional – to avoid risks and side effects.
If the Botox injections are administered too deep, too low, or in the wrong spot, it can result in droopy eyelid, asymmetrical results, a frozen expression, and even dangerous consequences – such as vision problems and difficulty in swallowing, speaking and breathing.
AMAE MedSpa in Birmingham, MI is owned and operated by double board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali, where we offer the highest standard of medical care and experience. We administer Botox injections almost every day in our sterile, state-of-the-art MedSpa.

How much does Botox cost?
The price of Botox can vary dramatically depending on geographic area, the doctor’s level of experience and the amount you need to obtain optimal results.
Botox is generally priced by the “unit”. At the AMAE MedSpa in Birmingham, Michigan we charge $12 per unit for nurse injections and $13 per unit for doctor administered injections.
The average person typically needs between 8 and 20 units to treat horizontal forehead lines. It takes, generally, 2 to 12 units to treat crow’s feet around each eyes. The average Botox dose around the eyes is 12-24 units total. To treat the parentheses or puppet lines around the mouth it may take 25 units for a woman, and more for a man.

Does Botox hurt?
Getting Botox involves quick and simple injections. Most patients report feeling nothing more than a prick – and you can typically return to work or daily activities immediately.
In some people there may be some initial mild redness – or minimal swelling, or bruising. But this should go away in an hour or less. It is much like getting any type of regular shot from a doctor.

When will I see the Botox results and how long will they last?
Typically, the results of Botox take a few days before they start to show. Most patients report seeing the results of their Botox after three or four days – which continue to improve for about two weeks until they see maximum results.
How long Botox treatments last depend upon the individual. The results of Botox will very gradually wear off over the next four to six months, or so. Some patients come in twice a year for Botox, while others may wish to come in 3 times a year.
