Injectables Trends: East Coast vs West Coast (Part 2)

The aesthetic injectable manufacturer Allergan, the makers of injectables such as Botox and Juvéderm, recently released their 360° Aesthetics Report, which shed some interesting light on the trends among patients of aesthetic procedures throughout the country.

The non-surgical cosmetic treatments (such as injectables) used by women are largely the same on both coasts. Women surveyed in the report were found to undergo both Botox and Juvéderm injectable treatments regardless of their place of residence. Rather, the amount of injectables women get, the frequency with which they get injectables, and how willing they were to be honest about getting injectables varied greatly from coast to coast.

Injectables: Fillers vs Freezing

When it comes to injectables, women on the East Coast generally wish to freeze away fine lines, while women on the West Coast are more inclined to get injectable fillers. The use of the injectable Botox to achieve a more well-rested look is most commonly found among patients in New York.

However, women in the west are more likely to turn to fillers – for every concern from filling in lip lines and wrinkles to adding volume to cheekbones. More and more, West Coast women are turning to injectable fillers to add volume to everything from the cheeks, nasolabial folds, and laugh lines around the eyes. Injectables: Wrinkle Prevention

Women in New York are more likely to turn to injectable treatments as a means of preventing the affects of aging. According to the 360° Aesthetics Report, more young people than ever are attempting to stop the aging process from progressing before it starts, with 60% of surveyed individuals age 21 to 35 expressing enthusiasm towards undergoing wrinkle relaxing injectables.

Injectables: Secret or Shared?

The Allergan report states that in the last five years alone, there has been a significant increase in the social acceptability of undergoing aesthetic procedures like injectables. Not only did 82% of those surveyed report thinking that it is no longer taboo to get injectable treatments, close to 900,000 photos on Instagram are tagged with #lipfillers, supporting that the stigma surrounding injectables is practically a thing of the past.

Los Angeles women will openly discuss their injectable treatments. Many social media influencers, as well as everyday people, on the west coast even will livestream their injections.

One exception to the nationwide movement embracing injectables occurs among New Yorker, a demographic traditionally quicker to embrace (and often set) the latest trends. In New York, while injectables remain a popular means of looking more refreshed, it is considered more scandalous. New York women report that they would never admit to neighbors or other casual acquaintances that they had undergone injectable treatments, with many women even stating they would withhold such information from their friends and family.
