How long does Botox last?
When injected for cosmetic purposes, Botox typically lasts between four to six months, on average. Most of our regular clients come in three times year for a quick ten minute injection. Some like to come in more often, a few can get away with only coming in twice a year.
Generally, a person can expect the effects of their first treatment to wear off a little faster — in maybe two or three months.
This is because it can take multiple Botox treatments before the facial muscles become conditioned and respond to the botulinum toxin.
Botox results will last longer after several sessions, because the skin has had more time to regenerate the collagen it needs to fill in the lines and wrinkles.
How much does Botox Cost?
Botox is priced by the “unit” – so it will depend upon how many units you require.
It typically only takes 3 to 10 units to treat crow’s feet around the eyes. It may take around 20 units to treat horizontal forehead lines, and up to 25 units to treat the “furrows” between the eyes. Men generally require more units than women.
In our Birmingham, Michigan MedSpa we charge $12 per unit of Botox when administered by a nurse practitioner and $13 per unit when administered by Dr. Ali.

Are There Side Effects from Botox?
When injected properly by a qualified doctor or nurse, Botox side effects should be minor. Some patients occasionally experience bruising or redness immediately after the injection, which usually resolves within a couple of hours.
Headaches following Botox injections are another rare but minor side effect – and should typically subside within 24 hours.
In clinical studies an extremely small percentage of patients had more serious complications from Botox. Only about 1% of patients experienced eyelid swelling in the studies on patients being treated with Botox for crow’s feet. Approximately three percent of patients being treated for frown lines experienced some eyelid drooping.
If a Botox injection is done incorrectly, or dosed improperly, the Botox could diffuse into other areas and cause drooping eyelids, blurred vision, a crooked smile, crooked eyebrows, or similar complications.
Because these complications are possible – although extremely rare – it is important to have your Botox administered by a Board Certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali who has performed thousands of Botox procedures.

Can Men Get Botox?
Absolutely! In 2016 453,281 men got some type of cosmetic Botox treatment ― accounting for about 10% of the Botox market. A study released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that between 2000 and 2015 the number of men getting injections increased by 337 percent.
Most men prefer to get their Botox injections in a discreet and private Medical Spa. At AMAE all patients are treated with the utmost confidentiality, privacy and discretion.
