Botox FAQs (Part 1)

Dr. Ali is a highly skilled, double board certified plastic surgeon, and an experienced Botox specialist who has performed thousands of Botox injections. In this Two Part Article he answers some of the most commonly asked questions about Botox injections.

How long does a Botox®  treatment take?

The actual Botox injection process only takes about 10 minutes! However, Dr. Ali will allow extra time to discuss your treatment goals, and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatments and injection sites for you.

How many Botox injections will I need each time?

For “crow’s feet”, Dr. Ali will typically inject 3 areas of the muscle that frames the side of one eye (orbicularis oculi). Then he will repeat the Botox procedure on the other eye area, with three more Botox injections.

For “frown lines” between the eyes area, Dr. Ali will typically will administer 5 injections into muscles in your forehead: 1 into the procerus muscle, and 4 in the corrugator muscles.

Do Botox® treatments hurt?

Because Botox is injected with a needle, you might feel a slight sting — many patients report that being injected with Botox® Cosmetic feels like a pinch. Dr. Ali may use ice to numb the treatment area, or may apply a topical numbing cream before administering your injection.

Some people may experience discomfort or pain at the injection site after the injection. However, this generally subsides very quickly.

How long is the recovery after Botox treatment?

After a Botox treatment, patients can typically resume their day without interruption. We have many patients in our Birmingham Med Spa who get Botox on their lunch hour and then go back to work!

Some patients may experience some slight bruising or redness. However, there is essentially no downtime after Botox cosmetic injection.

How long until I see results from Botox?

Most people will begin to notice improvements from Botox within 3 to 5 days after their injections. Full results typically become visible after 14 days.

The slight delay is due to the time it takes for the body to start reacting to the botulinum toxin.

Individuals with particularly strong facial muscles may take somewhat longer to see and feel the treatment’s effects.

Individuals with deeply etched wrinkles, and older persons being injected for the first time, may take longer or require repeated treatments. However, a dermal filler can be used to plump out the deep lines in the skin in the meantime, until the Botox takes full effect.
