All About Botox Injections
Botox facial injections are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world – with over six million Botox treatments administered every year. It is most commonly used to reduce or eliminate the lines and furrows commonly found on the forehead and between the eyes, as well as crow’s feet.
How Botox Works
Botox injections work by blocking the nerve signals to certain muscles in the face. This causes the muscles to become more relaxed – reducing the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles.
Although Botox is a neurotoxin – which sounds a bit alarming – it is perfectly safe—when administered by a licensed professional.
How Long Botox lasts
After your Botox injection, the effects on the facial muscles usually become visible in just a few hours. The full effect, however, should be visible after about a week.
Botox blocks neuro-transmitters and freezes muscle movements for 4 to 6 months. Many of our Birmingham, Michigan Botox clients come in twice a year to maintain a facial smooth appearance, and keep crow’s feet, and lines on the forehead and between the eyes at bay.
Risks and Side Effects of Botox
Because Botox injections introduce a muscle paralyzing substance into the face, the procedure should always be undertaken by a qualified licensed and experienced medical professional.
When performed by someone without qualifications and experience, Botox can cause asymmetrical results, muscle drooping, frozen expressions, and even dangerous consequences – such as vision problems and difficulty in swallowing, speaking and breathing.
