What does VISIA Skin Analysis measure and how does it analyze skin conditions?
All characteristics of aging including wrinkles, texture, age spots, UV spots, pores, brown spots, red areas, melanin (pigment), porphyrins (substance that causes skin discoloration), and blood vessels are measured with VISIA Skin Analysis. Then, using these specific data points, age and skin type, it is compared to the world’s largest database of skin features utilizing VISIA’s patented software analysis.
How does the VISIA Skin Analysis work?
At our Troy, MI area Med Spa, patients are seated while a capture module moves around the face taking ultraviolet(UV) photos. Porphyrins, a substance that causes skin discoloration, are identified using UV fluorescence imaging to analyze sun damage. The process only takes a few minutes. Once VISIA’s proprietary 7th generation software processes the facial images, a personalized report is printed. Dr. Ali will thoroughly explain the results and recommend the best skin care products and treatment.
Are eyes supposed to be open or closed during VISIA Skin Analysis?
Because the UV flashes are more intense during UV photos, it is recommended that eyes be closed. Eyelashes will not be included in the UV analysis. Eyes can be open or closed during standard photos to create the mask, but are more aesthetically pleasing with eyes open.
What is the UV photography wavelength used during VISIA Skin Analysis?
The UV flashes use a peak wavelength of 365 nm.
Why does VISIA Skin Analysis measure porphyrins and what are they?
Bacterial excretions, called porphyrins, can become imbedded in pores and lead to acne. They may be comedogenic and cytotoxic. Exposure to the sun can cause porphyrins to release singlet oxygen that can lead to the oxidation of lipids in the skin. This can promote skin-damaging cytotoxic lipid peroxides. Sun damage and porphyrins are closely connected. When in the follicular pores, porphyrins can cause wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and other types of photo-aging damage to accelerate with sun exposure.
Is VISIA Skin Analysis a proven, verified process?
Procter & Gamble released their complexion analysis software in 1998 to promote their skin care products. The software, developed in the late 1990s, has been extensively lab and field-tested. The analysis technique and various skin type results have been researched and support the VISIA algorithms.
