Eyelash Tinting FAQs
As William Shakespeare once famously wrote, “The eyes are the window to your soul”. And dark eyelashes can enhance anyone’s eyes. Dark eyelashes make the eyelashes look thicker, the eyes look larger, the face more expressive, and even make the whites of the eyes look whiter. Additionally, dark eyelashes can help make one look younger.
Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with naturally dark, beautiful lashes. Blondes and redheads, especially, are often born with naturally pale eyelashes that are almost invisible. And even women with natural dark lashes can experiencing thinning and lightening of their eyelashes with age.
For women who are not blessed with dark, picture-perfect lashes, eyelash tinting can instantly give them darker, longer-looking, waterproof lashes – without the inconvenience of constantly applying mascara.
In this article the skilled and experienced aestheticians at AMAE Med Spa in Birmingham, MI answer our patient’s most frequently asked questions about eyelash tinting.
What is Eyelash Tinting?
Eyelash tinting is treatment that applies a semi-permanent, waterproof dye to the upper and lower eyelashes. The rich, dark dye makes pale eyelashes lashes appear not only darker, but also longer and fuller. The end result is a bolder, wide-eyed look – with very little to no upkeep.
Is Eyelash Tinting Safe?
Absolutely! Eyelash tinting uses a 100% safe and natural vegetable dye that will not harm or irritate the eyes or eyelids.
How does Eyelash Tinting Make Eyelashes Look Longer?
Even dark eyelashes get lighter at the root, near the lash line. Making eyelashes darker makes them also look longer because the process colors the entire hair strand – all the way from the base of the lashes to the tip.
Who is a Good Candidate for Eyelash Tinting?
Women of any age are good candidates for eyelash tinting. Eyelash tinting is especially beneficial for women who
- have naturally blonde, red, or grey eyelashes
- are sensitive to make-up
- don’t want to apply make-up every morning
- wear contact lenses
- enjoy outdoor activities, sports, working out or swimming
- travel, have a busy job, or work long hours
- want to look great when they wake up or get out of the shower
- want to look more expressive, younger or more beautiful
- want to look their best in selfies, video-conferencing and on social media
Most clients tolerate the natural vegetable dye in eyelash tint very well. However, people who have highly sensitive eyes should avoid eyelash tinting.
Can Men Get Eyelash Tinting?
Certainly! Men with fair, blonde, red or grey eyelashes can also improve their appearance with eyelash tinting.
Unlike mascara, which is very visibly make-up, eyelash tinting makes eyelashes look naturally darker – with no clumps, smears, streaks or running when wet.
Our skilled aestheticians can help men chose a shade that darkens their lashes while complementing their skin tone, soit looks like they were just born with great lashes.
What is the Eyelash Tinting Appointment Like?
A typical eyelash tinting appointment only takes fifteen minutes, or so. Just like dying the hair on your head, eyelash tinting does not hurt – so no numbing is needed. The procedure can take a little getting used to – just because the aesthetician is working very near to your eyes – but most patients relax after a few minutes.
How Long does Eyelash Tinting Last?
Typically, eyelash tinting lasts up to five weeks.
Eyelash tinting results can vary from patient to patient, depending on the color and condition of their lashes – as well as the client’s lifestyle and aftercare regimen. For example, swimmers whose eyes are submerged in chlorine water may see slightly shorter results.
The eyelash dye is permanent, and typically will not fade. However, as the eyelashes naturally fall out during the hair growth cycle – and new eyelashes grow in their place – the lashes will start looking lighter.
How Do I Take Care of My Tinted Eyelashes?
Tinted eyelashes are relatively low maintenance and enable you to enjoy dark lashes for several weeks without the hassle of makeup.
For the best result, keep the eye area dry and avoid heat for at least 24 hours after the treatment, so that the dye can ‘set’.
For 24 hours after eyelash tinting:
- Avoid touching the area
- Do not wear contact lenses
- Do not apply makeup
- Do not swim or sunbathe
- Do not receive any other eye treatments
Additionally, use only oil-free creams and makeup removers on your eyelids and around your eye area as much as possible – especially during the first 48 hours after treatment. Avoid exposure to strong UV light because it can cause the tint to fade more quickly. And avoid rubbing or playing with your eyelashes lashes as much as possible.
