LATISSE for Longer Eyelashes: FAQs (Part 1)
A person’s eyelashes can work wonders to accentuate the shape of their eyes and emphasize their natural beauty. Unfortunately, not all eyelashes are created equal. Such is the case for people with hypotrichosis, a condition that causes one’s eyelashes to be either too sparse, or simply inadequate. If hypotrichosis has left you with less-that-satisfactory eyelashes, you may be interested in LATISSE.
LATISSE received FDA approval in December 2008 to treat hypotrichosis and help women and men grow thicker, longer, fuller eyelashes, and is now available online at AMAE Med Spa in Birmingham, MI.
In this article, board certified Birmingham, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali discusses how LATISSE can reverse the effects of hypotrichosis and provide patients with the long, thick, beautiful eyelashes they have always wanted.
How effective is LATISSE?
In recent clinical tests it was reported that almost 80% of LATISSE® users experienced a significant increase in the length, fullness, and darkness of their eyelashes at 16 weeks after application began. Specifically, eyelashes were reported to be 18% darker, 25% longer and an amazing 106% fuller!
How does LATISSE work?
Hair grows in different “phases”: resting, active growth and shedding (falling out). Doctors believe that LATISSE® extends the eyelash follicles’ “anagen” or active growth) phase – giving eyelashes more time to grow and less time to rest or fall out.
How do I apply the LATISSE solution?
We remind our Birmingham, MI area patients that LATISSE must be applied on a nightly basis, using only its accompanying sterile applicators. Before applying LATISSE, patients should first make sure their face is clean and free of any make up. Patients who wear contact lenses should also remove them prior to applying LATISSE.
Next, place a single drop of the LATISSE solution on the sterile, disposable applicator and carefully use it to brush along the base of the eyelashes. Any excess LATISSE solution visible on the margin of the upper eyelid should simply be blotted off using a tissue or Q-tip.
The LATISSE solution should not cause any harm if it accidentally gets in your eye – but the eye should not be rinsed if it accidentally gets in the eye.
Additionally, LATISSE should not be applied to the lower eyelash line.
Can men use LATISSE?
Yes. Many men as well as women utilize LATISSE® for increasing eyelash length, thickness and darkness. We have several male patients who have successfully used LATISSE® to improve the appearance of their eyes. In fact, we’re told, that women love a man with long dark eyelashes: like Colin Farrell, Jason Behr, Bradley Cooper or Ryan Reynolds.
Who should not use LATISSE solution?
LATISSE is perfectly safe for most individuals – and only a minute percentage of people are allergic to one of its ingredients. People who have elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) or who have been prescribed medications for IOP, (such as LUMIGAN® bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) should not use LATISSE®, unless specifically approved by their treating physician.
Additionally, anyone active eye disease, or who is at risk for eye disorders, should seek approval from their own eye doctor before starting LATISSE®.
Pregnant or nursing women should also consult with their doctor before using LATISSE.
What happens if I stop using LATISSE?
You eyelashes will typically return to their previous appearance over several weeks or months, after you stop using LATISSE.
Can I buy LATISSE in the store or online?
No – not without a prescription from a doctor. LATISSE® is a medication, and is available only by prescription from a doctor. Dr. Ali currently offers LATISSE for sale to his patients for online purchase and home delivery during the period of social distancing.
