Juvéderm: Long Lasting Facial Fillers

Juvéderm is a line of smooth gel fillers that a doctor injects into the face to instantly smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles, folds and lines. It is also one of the longest lasting facial fillers available today.

Juvéderm is typically administered to “plump up” the folds that run from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth, as well as to “erase” the “marionette lines” in the corner of the mouth. Juvéderm is also an effective treatment for plumping thin or aging lips.

How does Juvéderm Facial Filler work?

Young, healthy-looking skin contains a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). As a person ages, sunlight and other factors reduce the amount of HA in the skin – causing the skin to lose structure and volume.

Lack of HA results in facial wrinkles and folds – like the “parentheses lines” around the nose and mouth. Juvéderm is injected into the lines and folds in the face by a doctor, to replace the HA that the skin has lost. This restores volume and smooths away facial wrinkles and folds – taking years of a person’s appearance!

How Long Does Juvéderm Facial Filler Last?

Juvederm is one of the longest lasting facial fillers currently on the market today, and in some applications can last up to two years!

Juvéderm’s longevity will depend upon the type (formula) of Juvéderm used, as well as where on the face it is injected. Results can also vary somewhat from patient to patient. Facial filler longevity also will depend on how much Juvéderm is needed, the depth of the folds, and the elasticity of the skin.

The average Juvederm lip filler treatment lasts about 6 months – due to higher blood flow in the lip area.

However, Juvéderm can last up to a year – or more – when used in the nasolabial folds (puppet lines or parentheses). Juvéderm Vollure results may last even longer – up to 18 months.

And Juvéderm Voluma is the longest lasting Juvéderm facial filler formulation, and may last up to two years, depending on type and number of treatment. Typically Juvéderm Volbella facial injections last from six months up to one year.

Juvéderm is the only hyaluronic acid filler that is approved to last up to one year, making it a favorite of many of our Birmingham, MI patients!

Are there Risks or Side Effects to Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is widely regarded as a highly safe, FDA-approved hyaluronic acid. When administered by aboard certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali, risks and side effects are minimal and very, very rare.

Like any injection, Juvéderm “shots” can sting or be painful – however new Juvéderm XC products contain a local anesthetic. Dr. Ali will discuss the other pain management steps he offers to increase your comfort during and after your Juvéderm injections.

Juvéderm injections usually result in some bruising and swelling, which typically lasts for less than a week. This recovery period varies from person to person, but there are some things you can do to reduce these side effects, including using products containing Arnica Montana, and applying ice.

Some small lumps and bumps are normal the first week after injections, but are only temporary. If they do not go away in a week, you can return to our Birmingham, MI MedSpa where we can apply massage or heat to smooth it out. (Do not attempt to massage it yourself.)
