PRP Hair Restoration Treatment for Women
Jason Statham. Samuel L. Jackson.Bruce Willis. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. What do these sexy A-list celebrities have in common? They’re all extremely good looking, and they’re all bald. However, there are few if any female celebrities who rock a bald head, or for that matter, even have thinning hair.
Of course, true beauty comes from within. However, no matter how unfair, women tend to be judged by their appearance. Thick, luxurious tresses are high on the list of desirable traits. The good news is that there is now a new, state-of-the-art hair restoration treatment that really works for women.
If you are not blessed with a full head of hair like Carrie Underwood or Kim Kardashian, there is hope. A new, completely natural hair restoration procedure for women (and men) is now available at Dr. Ali’s AMAE Med Spa in the Troy, Michigan area.
Causes of Women’s Hair Loss
Female pattern hair loss, or androgenetic alopecia, is a condition that causes hair follicles to “shrink.” It can begin as early as in your 20s, and continue through your late 60s. The cause is generally either hormonal or hereditary, or both. The result is that your hair falls out faster, and the hair that grows back is finer in texture. This process is called “miniaturization,” and leads to whispy hair with fewer follicles per inch of scalp.
A second type of women’s hair loss (traction alopecia) is a result of hair styling, such as tight ponytails or heavy extensions, that pulls the hair out and ultimately leading to thinning.
Most women don’t realize how common female pattern hair loss is. In fact, as many as 30 million adult women in the United States suffer from female pattern hair loss. Sadly, most are too embarrassed to discuss their condition even with close friends or their physician.
Rather than consulting with a medical professional about their hair loss, many women spend vast sums of money on various volumizing products, hair pieces and extensions to camouflage their thinning hair. But no matter what the product claims, none of these techniques address the actual problem, nor do they provide a permanent solution.
PRP Hair Restoration Treatment for Women
The good news is that a solution is now available. The technique is called “platelet rich plasma” (or “PRP”), and it treats female pattern hair loss and traction alopecia in both women and men.
Here’s how it works. It has long been known that platelets, which are found in the blood, contain proteins that stimulate the body’s healing ability. Recently, research has shown that in high enough concentrations, these proteins, or growth factors, can also treat hair loss with great success.
Essentially, these growth factors stimulate dormant hair follicles to wake up, or turn on. Then, the growth factor provides something like a vitamin boost that helps the follicles grow longer and thicker hair.
How PRP Hair Restoration Works
The procedure itself is surprisingly simple – almost as simple as a routine blood test. Your blood will be drawn, and then it’s spun in a centrifuge. This isolates the platelets, resulting in a concentrated amount of growth factor proteins – approximately 3 to 5 times more than your normal blood would provide.
Dr. Ali then numbs your scalp, and the concentrated PRP serum is injected into the area of your scalp that is affected by hair loss. The procedure itself is quick, relatively painless, and the best part is, there’s no down time.
Results will, of course, vary with each woman. However, assuming you are a good candidate for the procedure, you may notice that hair loss slows almost immediately, and thicker hair regrowth is seen within a few weeks.
