PRP Hair Loss Treatment FAQs – Part 2
Dr. Ali is one of the few doctors in the West Bloomfield, Michigan area to offer the new, highly effective, non-surgical, Platelet Rich Plasma or “PRP” hair loss treatments. In this article we answer many of the questions our patients ask about PRP.
The only way to determine if PRP Hair Loss Treatments are right for you is to schedule a consultation with an experienced physician. Dr. Ali at AMAE Med Spa can determine whether you are a good candidate for PRP Hair Loss Treatment. However, while you wait for your appointment, take a look at the FAQs below. Then call our office to schedule your consultation!
How many PRP Hair Loss Treatments will I need?
Everyone’s hair loss is different. For most patients, however, PRP hair loss therapy consists of perhaps three treatments which take place over a one month to six week period. Maintenance is recommended every six months to maximize ongoing scalp and follicle health. In your consultation with Dr. Ali, he will suggest a treatment plan that is customized for your particular circumstances.
Does PRP Hair Loss Treatment work for women as well as men?
Yes! PRP Hair Loss Treatment is very effective in treating either men or women who are affected by androgenetic alopecia, which is a hereditary condition that causes hair thinning.
PRP can also work well for men and women who have traction alopecia as a result of hair styling that pulls the hair out (for instance, ponytails or heavy hair extensions).
Are their side effects to PRP Hair Loss Treatments?
There are no dangerous side effects to PRP because it is 100% natural, using only the body’s own platelets.
When administered by a licensed physician, the procedure is extremely safe. It is performed under sterile conditions in our office, which significantly minimizes, or eliminates entirely the risk of infection at the injection site.
During the PRP injections, an anesthetic is used for patient comfort. As with any anesthetic, a very small number of patients may have a slight reaction to the numbing product, but adverse reactions are extremely rare and even in those cases, are typically very mild.
Who is a good candidate for PRP Hair Loss Treatments?
The best candidates for PRP Hair Loss Treatment are men or women who have begun to lose their hair more recently. However, positive results have also been observed in patients who have experienced gradual hair thinning and loss over a period of years. Unfortunately, PRP will not work for anyone who is completely bald.
PRP is not effective on hair loss resulting from certain underlying medical conditions such as anemia, hypothyroidism, lupus, or liver disease. However, PRP may work well for patients whose hair loss is caused by stress or the onset of a sudden illness.
As with almost any medical condition, the earlier you seek treatment the better the outcome. So schedule an appointment at our West Bloomfield, Michigan area office to see if PRP – or one of our other state-of-the-art hair loss treatments – can help you.
