Dr. Ali’s AMAE Med Spa is one of the few medical facilities in the Troy, Michigan area to offer the new, highly effective, non-surgical, Platelet Rich Plasma or “PRP” hair loss treatments. This article answers some of the questions most frequently asked by our patients about PRP.
Of course, the best way to decide if PRP Hair Loss Treatments are for you is to schedule an appointment with Dr. Ali, an experienced hair restoration doctor, at our AMAE Med Spa in the Troy, Michigan area. Until then, the PRP Hair Loss Treatment FAQs below may answer some of your questions.
What is PRP Hair Loss Treatment?
Platelet Rich Plasma (“PRP”) Hair Loss Treatment is a process in which a patient’s blood is drawn and then placed in a centrifuge, which separates out the plasma. The plasma-rich platelets contain a growth factor that has been found to stimulate hair follicles.
After being spun in the centrifuge, the isolated plasma becomes concentrated, containing up to 8 times the follicle stimulating growth factor of normal blood. In its concentrated form, it is then injected into the areas of the patient’s scalp where hair is thin or sparse.
Is PRP Hair Loss Treatment Effective?
For the right candidates, PRP Hair Loss Treatment is very effective at slowing hair loss and reversing the effects of follicle miniaturization to once again produce strong, thicker hair.
Who is a Candidate for PRP Hair Loss Treatment?
PRP works for either women or men with thinning hair. It works best on areas where there is some existing hair that is thinning, as opposed to areas that are completely bald.
PRP hair loss treatment can provide a solution for patients who are not good candidates for other types of hair loss treatments. It can also help those with thinning hair in the crown area who may not be good candidates for traditional hair transplants.
How Many PRP Hair Loss Treatments Do I Need?
Generally, we recommend three initial PRP Hair Loss Treatments, spaced one month apart. Subsequently, you should plan to schedule PRP Hair Loss Treatments every six months or so to maintain the results.
Is there Downtime after PRP Hair Loss Treatment?
There is no “downtime” and virtually no recovery time, because PRP Hair Loss Treatments are non-surgical. You can drive, run errands or return to work immediately after treatment. It is wise to refrain from heavy exercise or exertion at least for the rest of the day after your treatment. While most patients don’t experience any discomfort after the treatment, some have reported a mild swelling or tenderness that goes away within a day or two.
