Top 12 Tips for Perfect Lip Fillers (Part 2)
We have helped hundreds of women at our Troy, area Med Spa get fuller, more attractive lips with lip fillers. In this 3 part article we share our top twelve tips for perfect lip fillers.
-
Minimize Bruising from Lip Fillers
A week prior to any lip injection procedure, patients should eliminate all blood-thinning supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, fish oil, etc. from their diet. While bruising around the injection site is rare, these supplements can increase the possibility of bruising.
Contrarily, patients are encouraged to take Arnica tablets prior to the procedure, as arnica may actually help prevent swelling and bruising of the lips.

Plan Ahead When Getting Lip Fillers
Due to the possibility of swelling or bruising after the procedure, our AMAE Med Spa in Troy MI strongly encourages patients to schedule treatments at least 1 to 2 weeks before any important personal event or business function.
-
Lip Filler IS Adjustable
Hyaluronic acid-based lip fillers stay flexible for several weeks after they are injected. So if a patient feels their lip appearance isn’t quite right, adjustments can be made for up to 4 weeks following the procedure.
It’s completely normal for some filler to settle in unpredictable areas, even with a master clinician applying it. Small adjustments may be needed which should always be performed by the patient’s professional treatment provider. Patients are encouraged to never try the do-it-yourself method!
It’s important that patients wait for their body to adapt to the treatment and all residual swelling to disappear before a touchup procedure is performed. With a little massaging, adding slightly more product, or dissolving some filler, the clinician can correct any visible issues and create the perfectly plump lips the patient desires.
-
Keep Your Lip Filler “Touched up”
The mouth is in nearly constant motion, and fillers have a tendency to break down more quickly in areas that move a lot. While results vary by patient, on average most people can expect to have follow up lip filler injections about 2 to 3 times a year to maintain an optimal appearance.
Getting a small amount of filler as a touch up can keep your lips looking plumper, longer – rather than waiting too long and having to “start from scratch.”
