Skincare Product Ingredients That Reduce Wrinkles
With so many anti-aging skincare products on the market – all making so many ‘miraculous’ claims – how does one know what works?
In this article our experienced aestheticians discuss some of the best ingredients to look for in wrinkle treatment skincare products. However, the best way to know which wrinkle reducing products or treatments are right for your unique skin is to schedule an appointment with our licensed and certified aestheticians.
We also carry a wide array of professional strength premium wrinkle treatments that work far better than anything “over the counter” from a drugstore or department store. Many of these can purchased online in our Alastin Store and our ZO Skincare Store!
Vitamin C to Reduce Wrinkles
Doctors advise that the use of vitamin C as an antioxidant softens rough skin, protects the skin from damage, and fades scars and dark marks. It is most effective at preventing fine lines, while also have some effect of stimulating collagen production to smooth existing lines.
When introduced into the skin on a deeper level – such as through microneedling – it can have even greater beneficial effects. It does take a few months to see any reduction in lines, and used alone isn’t going to be a “miracle” worker. But combined with other skincare ingredients and treatments, Vitamin C can substantially improve fine lines and wrinkles.
Retinol to Reduce Wrinkles
Retinol as a skincare ingredient has the double whammy of both increasing new collagen production and stopping the breakdown of existing collagen. It stimulates the skin cells to regenerate faster to create fresh, plump, non-wrinkled skin. In addition to treating even deep wrinkles, retinol diminishes dark spots, scars, and acne as well.
Retinol can take up to three months of consistent use before one sees results—but the results can be long lasting.
Because of its strength, start off using Retinal slowly – once or twice a week – and then gradually build to use every other day for as long as you want to keep wrinkles at bay.
Hyaluronic Acid to Reduce Wrinkles
Unlike Retinol’s long term effects, Hyaluronic Acid only yields temporary results. Its molecular structure causes it to acts like a sponge – pulling water into the skin to plump fine lines.
While Hyaluronic Acid works immediately -and has the advantage of causing no irritation – it won’t help with deeper lines or wrinkles. And the effects don’t last.
Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) to Reduce Wrinkles
Glycolic acid and lactic acid are both members of the natural Alpha-Hydroxy Acid family. Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane, while lactic acid is derived from milk. Because these are “acids” they slough off the dead skin cells revealing newer skin cells beneath. AHAs also act as humectants – which means that they actually draw water into the skin.
Alpha-Hydroxy Acids also increase collagen production – which increases skin thickness, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, and reduces hyperpigmentation.
The Best Way to Reduce Wrinkles
While these products can greatly benefit the skin, they are often even more effective when applied by a professional immediately before, during or right after another procedure such as a facial, a chemical peel, DiamondGlow dermalinfusion, or microneedling.
When these product and treatments are administered in the right combination custom formulated for your unique skin, you can literally turn back the effects of time!
