How does the CO₂RE laser resurface skin?

The CO₂RE laser is a state-of-the-art fractional CO₂ laser.  It is unique in that it incorporates two laser technologies that simultaneously treat both the top layer (epidermis) and deep layers (dermis) of the skin.

This dual laser works on two levels. Superficially, it performs “ablative” resurfacing by removing the top layer of aging or damaged skin – revealing the new, healthy skin cells below.

At the same time, the fractional laser waves create microscopic channels far below the skins surface, which activates the body’s collagen production and cell renewal processes – naturally repairing damaged skin.

Is the CO₂RE laser safe?

Very! CO₂RE offers state-of-the-art laser technology that is FDA cleared for more than 90 uses. It is used by dermatologists and plastic surgeons worldwide and is widely regarded as the “gold standard” in laser skin resurfacing.

More than 52 million wrinkle reduction treatments have been performed with the CO₂RE laser. And, more than 15 million patients have received scar reduction, and another 15 million having had pigmentation reduction with the CO₂RE laser.

Why is the CO₂RE laser better for skin resurfacing?

CO₂RE is both powerful and versatile, while also being more gentle. The dual laser waves can be customized for each patient’s unique aesthetic needs, while treating both superficial and deep skin tissue at the same time.

Who is a good candidate for CO₂RE laser skin resurfacing?

CO₂RE laser skin resurfacing is appropriate for almost any individual who is seeking smoother skin or a younger appearance, without the long recovery of older laser procedures.

Since the Co2RE laser is adjustable, good candidates for skin resurfacing can have mild, moderate or severe degrees of sun damage, pigmentation, wrinkles and lines, or scarring.

How many CO₂RE laser treatments will I need?

One of the best things about CO₂RE laser skin resurfacing is that patients typically achieve the results they want in only a single laser treatment!

When will I see results after my laser skin resurfacing?

Substantial initially results will become immediately visible, as soon as the skin has healed from the treatment. For lighter procedures, healing typically only takes 2 or 3 days. While deeper treatments may require up from 10 to 14day of healing, at which time the initial improvements will begin to be visible.

After the healing period skin will look softer, smoother and unwanted pigmentation will be visibly reduced. Then, over time, the skin resurfacing results will continue to improve for up to several months, as the skin’s cellular regeneration process heals the skin damage “from the inside out.”

Wrinkles and lines, age/dark spots, scars and uneven skin tone texture will continue to improve for up to six months after the treatment, as the body continues to renew and restore the collagen and elastin.

How long will results last after CO₂RE laser skin resurfacing?

Everyone is different, and a variety of personal factors that will determine how long your CO₂RE skin resurfacing results will last.  Your age, hereditary factors, overall health, lifestyle choices (such as tanning or smoking) and how well you take care of your skin will also affect the treatments longevity.

But, in most case, wrinkle reduction results can last up to several years. And improvement in the appearance of scars and pigmentation is generally somewhat permanent!

Right after the treatment patients will experience a sensation similar to a sunburn, that will disappear in a few to several hours.

For light laser treatments, the recovery period may only take a couple days. Deeper and more extensive treatments may need 10 to 14 days for complete healing.

After most CO2RE laser skin resurfacing treatments some peeling of the dead skin cells will start in about 4 or 5 days. Depending on the extent and intensity of the treatment, this natural exfoliation may last for 7 to 10 days.
