Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing for Beautiful Skin
It has been almost a decade since the Fraxel Laser burst on to the cosmetic scene – offering a revolutionary method of skin resurfacing using lasers. To celebrate ten years of beautiful skin, we share with you some facts and features of this fantastic treatment.
How Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing Works
Fraxel actually stimulates skin renewal by creating microscopic “wounds” in the skin that initiate the growth of new skin. While this may sound scary at first, rest assured that the “wounds” are so tiny that they are not painful and do not cause scars!
The treatment is extremely safe. And there is virtually no downtime – other than a day or two of mild redness, which can be covered easily with makeup. In fact, many patients compare the Fraxel treatment to a very mild sunburn.
How Fraxel Revolutionized Skin Resurfacing
Fraxel was the first fractional laser. Prior to that, plastic surgeons used “ablative” laser resurfacing techniques, which vaporized the entire skin surface – which then slowly re-grew. The downtime was unacceptably long, with several days of peeling skin – and there were several complications, especially in people with darker skin.
Since Fraxel, however, preserves the integrity of most of the skin surface – resulting in far less discomfort as well as eliminating downtime. Fraxel causes just heat “damage” to the skin, but does not vaporize it.
Fraxel Skin Resurfacing’s Excellent Safety Profile
The most common complication of other laser skin resurfacing treatments is hyperpigmentation. This can take the form of darkened patches on the skin, or just generalized dullness. Asian individuals and people with darker skin types are particularly at risk for hyperpigmentation.
However, with Fraxel treatments the risk of pigmentation is very low – much lower than it is with other lasers including carbon dioxide lasers – even in the darkest skin types.
And because Fraxel is so safe, it can also be used on other parts of the body – including the chest and hands – to reverse the signs of aging.
Dr. Ali uses Fraxel Laser to treat acne scars, as well as to correct all skin problems associated with aging, including enlarged pores, sun damage, dull skin, skin laxity, fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation.
With state-of-the-art Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing, Dr. Ali offers true skin renewal, restoring it to its youthful state.
Fraxel Skin Resurfacing is Safe for Darker Skin Tones
Unlike most traditional laser treatments, Fraxel laser is safe and effective for patients with darker skin tones. This is because Fraxel laser works by treating only a fraction of the skin’s surface at a time, leaving the surrounding areas untouched. This allows for faster healing and less risk of scarring or pigmentation changes, which are common side effects of traditional laser treatments.
Fraxel laser is also safe for darker skin tones because it uses a wavelength that is absorbed by water in the skin, rather than by melanin. Melanin is the pigment in the skin that gives it color, and traditional laser treatments can target this pigment, causing damage to the surrounding tissue. Fraxel laser, on the other hand, targets water, which is present in all skin types regardless of color.
This makes Fraxel laser a safe and effective option for patients with darker skin tones who want to improve the appearance of their skin without the risk of scarring or pigmentation changes.
