Kybella Double Chin Treatment FAQs – Part 1
Kybella is an innovative, new, nonsurgical treatment used to reduce or eliminate a “double chin” caused by excess “submental” fat beneath the chin.
In this two part article Troy, MI area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali answers patients’ most frequently asked questions about Kybella Double chin treatments.
How does Kybella Double Chin Treatment Work?
Kybella is a synthetic formulation of deoxycholic acid, a substance the body naturally synthesizes to break down and absorb dietary fat.
By injecting it into the chin area, the Kybella Double Chin Treatment dissolves the double-chin-causing submental fat, and offers patients in our Troy, Mi area med spa a significantly stronger, contoured jawline.
What Causes a Double Chin?
The major factors seem to be genetics, natural aging or weight gain. A double chin can cause an older and heavier look and according to a 2014 survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery approximately 70% of consumers report being bothered by submental fullness.
Whether it is caused by weight gain, aging, or simply genetics, people with double chins often report feeling as though they look heavier and older.
A study conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery in 2014 reported that roughly 70% of consumers feel uncomfortable with the appearance of their double chin. Fortunately for those who visit our Troy, MI Area Med Spa, the Kybella Double Chin Treatment is available to make anxieties about submental fullness a thing of the past.
What other options exist to reduce a double chin?
Other treatment options to reduce submental double chin fat, in addition to Kybella, are surgery, liposuction or CoolSculpting. We offer all of these treatments at our Troy, MI area med spa and plastic surgery practice.
Schedule a consultation at our Troy, MI area med spa and Dr. Ali will help you decide which double chin treatment is right for you.
Is Kybella Double Chin Treatment FDA Approved?
In 2015, the Kybella Double Chin Treatment was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration.
How Long do Kybella Results Last?
While the Kybella Double Chin Treatment was only recently introduced to the market, studies have determined that the results of Kybella Double Chin Treatment appear to be permanent.
The human body does not have the ability to produce new fat cells. As such, when submental fat cells are destroyed during the Kybella Double Chin Treatment, it is impossible for them to return.
Studies of patients injected with the Kybella Double Chin Treatment who gained weight following their treatment did not show their submental fullness redeveloping, further supporting the case for the long-term effectiveness of the Kybella Double Chin Treatment.
How Many Kybella Treatments Do I Need?
The number of Kybella treatments required varies between patients, but usually fall somewhere between two and five. Over a series of treatments, scheduled no less than a month apart, Kybella is injected into the fat under the chin in a quick visit to our Troy, Mi area med spa.
Depending on one’s physiology and desired outcome of undergoing Kybella Double Chin Treatment, most patients receive two treatments spaced a month or two apart, but each patient’s specific timeframe of treatment will be determined during their individual consultation.
