Puffy eyes are often result from changes in the underlying facial structures as people age. Muscles and other supportive tissues around the eye relax and the skin itself becomes less elastic. This can causes fat that was once stored more deeply to migrate to the skin’s surface, causing eyelid bags.

In other cases, as these deep internal fat pads descend or “droop” with age, the under-eye hollows become more pronounced.

Fractional lasers, like Fraxel technology can be used to tighten the skin. These can be utilized in conjunctions with various facial fillers for smoothing.

To treat dark circles under the eyes, the doctor must first determine the cause. Volume (fat) loss, pigmentation, visible blood vessels, and/or some combination of all three are usually the cause.
