What to Expect During Your First Lip Filler Appointment
So you’ve decided to take the plunge, just like hundreds of celebrities and thousands of women, and finally get fuller, sexier lips with lip fillers at our Birmingham, MI med spa. We know you are excited, and maybe a little nervous – but don’t worry!
At AMAE med spa in Birmingham, MI we have helped hundreds of women get the lips they love with lip filler. In this article we explain what to expect from start to finish when getting your lip fillers.
Lip Filler Consultation
During your consultation our nurse injector will take the time to sit down with you and discuss how to best meet your cosmetic goals through lip fillers. Board-certified lip filler expert Dr. Ali will discuss with you precisely how to achieve your desired look through lip fillers, as well as how to best meet said goals within your personal budget.
Dr. Ali will also go over the different types of lip fillers available -with the most common being a brand of hyaluronic acid filler. He will also discuss the amount of lip filler required to meet your treatment goals.
During your consultation, Dr. Ali will also discuss the length of time your lip fillers will last (usually six to nine months). The various types of anesthesia available -be it topical cream, ice, local anesthetic, or none at all- will also be discussed.
As the Birmingham, MI-area’s leading expert on facial fillers, Dr. Ali takes great care to educate all of his patients of the potential side effects of lip fillers. Most side effects of lip fillers are extremely minor, and simply result in some minor redness, swelling, or bruising.
However, in some extremely rare cases, lip fillers can result in more serious side effects. While profoundly uncommon, there have been reported causes of people developing infections after undergoing lip fillers, as well as the possible reactivation of cold sores. But as a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Ali takes great care to ensure all of his patients receive above-average care, with all side effects -major or minor- kept to a minimum.
Lip Filler Expectations
It is important to remember that since everyone’s face is different, no one single lip filler treatment is right for everyone. The results of all lip filler treatments are based on highly personalized care, tailored to the anatomy of your face. If you go into your appointment expecting to look just like Kylie Jenner afterwards, you are going to be disappointed. But if you put your lip filler care in the hands of a board-certified expert like Dr. Ali, you will leave your procedure with beautiful lips that compliment the natural features of your face.
Lip Filler Procedure
Your lip filler journey begins with “before” photos being taken prior to your treatment. Following this, anesthesia will be applied. The next step in the lip filler procedure is to disinfect the perioral area. After this, the lip filler is injected.
Following the lip filler injection, Dr. Ali will gently massage the treatment area and apply a post-procedural cream such as arnica. After this, you will be given instructions -usually both verbally and in written form- on how to properly care for your lips.
After that, it’s time to assess the results in the mirror. The last step of the lip filler journey is to take post-treatment “after” photos, which are compared to the “before” photos for an accurate assessment of the results.
You will also be provided with a 24/7 contact number you can call should you experience any unusual side effects (which is very uncommon) such as intense sensations of pain, bruising, or swelling.
Lip Filler After Effects
It is perfectly normal to experience some swelling during the first 2-4 days after getting lip fillers. This can be managed with cold packs, antihistamines, or anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen, if necessary. Additionally, it is important to avoid applying makeup or lip products for the first 24 hours after getting lip fillers. During the first 48 hours after lip filler injections, you should also abstain from exercising or drinking alcohol, and should also refrain from using sunbeds or saunas.
It might seem like there’s a lot you need to know before getting lip fillers, but don’t worry! At AMAE Med Spa in Birmingham, MI, board-certified surgeon and lip filler expert Dr. Ali will work closely with you to provide a smooth and comfortable experience that meets your precise needs and desires as a patient.
