Restylane vs. Juvéderm: Which Lip Filler is Better?

Full lips have always been considered attractive – but today’s celebrities have made having plump lips almost mandatory!  Fortunately, for those of us with thinner lips – whether due to heredity or age – lip injections (lip fillers) can create lip volume as well as reduce lines around the mouth.

In fact, there are currently several popular, FDA approved lip filler treatments on the market. So how do you know which one is right for you? In this article we discuss the pros and cons of the two most popular lip fillers: Restylane and Juvéderm.

Which Lip Filler Lasts Longer: Restylane or Juvéderm?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin known for adding volume, and retaining moisture and softness. Restylane Silk and Juvéderm Volbella and Juvéderm Ultra, are FDA approved hyaluronic acid lip fillers.

One of the biggest differences between Restylane and Juvéderm lip fillers is how long they last. Restylane Silk typically only lasts three to six months, however Juvéderm Volbella and Ultra last from six months to a year in the lip area (and up to two years in other areas of the face).

Which Plumps Lips More: Restylane or Juvéderm?

Deciding which lip filler is best for you should be a discussion between you and your medical provider.

Restylane Silk and Juvéderm Volbella are softer hyaluronic acid based fillers. They are both good for adding subtle hydration to the lips and treating fine vertical lines (“smokers’ lines”) around the lips.

However, Restylane Silk and Juvéderm Volbella only provide soft and subtle enhancement to the lips, without adding much volume.

Juvéderm Ultra is much thicker than thicker than Volbella and Restylane Silk, and provides much more noticeable volume. Patients who want more volume typically will prefer Juvéderm Ultra lip fillers.

Which Lip Filler Costs More: Restylane or Juvéderm?

Of course, the price of any cosmetic procedure including lip fillers will vary according to the medical provider, location, facial areas treated, and the amount of product used. However, Juvéderm is typically somewhat cheaper than Restylane.

And, when you consider that Juvéderm can last two to three times as long as other lip filler injectables, you can see that it truly is a value when it comes to price!
