Juvéderm FAQs
We have helped thousands of women and men in Oakland county get the younger, smoother, “plumper” face they desire with Juvéderm injections in our Birmingham, MI MedSpa. In this two part article we answer some frequently asked questions about Juvéderm.
How Long Does it Take to Get Juvéderm?
Doctor Ali or a Nurse practitioner will take the time to go over your medical history, discuss your treatment goals and provide a facial analysis. This can take 15 minutes or more.
The actual treatment with the Juvéderm® injectable gels can then take 15 minutes to a half hour, depending upon which areas of your face are being treated. So generally, you should allow an hour for your Juvéderm appointment in our Birmingham, MI MedSpa.
Is Juvéderm safe?
Juvéderm is an FDA-approved form of hyaluronic acid facial filler, which has a proven track record of safety.
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body, and therefore Juvéderm facial fillers are extremely unlikely to result in complications or side effects. Juvéderm (Hyaluronic acid) also dissolves naturally over time, as the molecules dissolve and turn into water – departing without leaving any trace in your body.
How does Juvéderm work?
Young, healthy-looking skin contains adequate amounts of the naturally hydrating hyaluronic acid (HA). As we age, sunlight, other environmental factors, and genetics cause a reduction in the amount of Hyaluronic acid in the skin.
This lack of Hyaluronic acid causes the facial skin to lose structure and volume, creating wrinkles and folds – including the parentheses lines around the nose and mouth.
Juvéderm is injected into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of the skin) to replace the Hyaluronic acid the skin has lost, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds.
How long does Juvéderm last?
Juvéderm’s longevity will depend upon the type (formula) of Juvéderm used, as well as where on the face it is injected. Results can also vary somewhat from patient to patient. Results may last from six months up to two years – making it the longest lasting facial filler currently on the market today!
Juvéderm can last up to a year – or more – when used in the nasolabial folds (puppet lines or parentheses). The average lip treatment lasts somewhat less – about 6 months – due to higher blood flow in the lip area.
Juvéderm Voluma is the longest lasting Juvéderm formulation, and may last up to two years, depending on type and number of treatment. Typically Juvéderm Volbella facial injections last from six months up to one year. While Juvéderm Vollure results may last up to 18 months or longer.
Does it Hurt to Get Juvéderm?
Juvéderm® facial filler formulas include “XC” in their name – indicating that they contain pain-reducing lidocaine, to minimize any pain or discomfort during the injection.
Doctor Ali may also apply topical numbing cream or ice, to further minimize any discomfort. He will discuss your pain management options with your thoroughly before he administers your facial fillers.
Who Can Get get Juvéderm?
Most adults who are in good health are candidates for Juvéderm facial fillers. Juvéderm is FDA approved for use in the lips for lip augmentation and for correction of lines, in adults over the age of 21. We have used Juvéderm fillers with great results on women of all ages from their twenties into their 70s!
Both women and men can achieve a more youthful appearance with Juvéderm!
Patients should not receive Juvéderm® injectable facial fillers if they have a history of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), or are allergic to lidocaine or the Gram-positive bacterial proteins used to make hyaluronic acid.
If a patient has herpes simplex virus (“cold sores”) they should contact their physician for treatment as if they were experiencing an outbreak. Juvéderm does not cause outbreaks, but can trigger a non-active outbreak. Women should who are pregnant, nursing or may become pregnant, should also wait to obtain Juvéderm facial fillers.
Patients who are using medications that can prolong bleeding (such as blood thinners) may experience increased bruising or bleeding at the Juvéderm injection site, and should consult with their personal doctor before getting any facial fillers.
When will I See Results with Juvéderm?
Typically, patients will see results immediately! And while there will be dramatic results instantly, your appearance will continue to improve over a two week period.
