Who is a Good Candidate for CoolSculpting?
Dr. Ali has helped hundreds of men and women in Birmingham, Mi amd across Oakland County get the trim, sleek body they love with CoolSculpting. One of the questions we are most frequently asked is “Am I a good candidate for the CoolSculpting?” In this article we explain who will benefit from CoolSculpting fat freezing.
Women and Men Can Get CoolSculpting
Although men and women tend to store stubborn fat in different parts of the body, CoolSculpting works equally well for males and females.
For women, CoolSculpting can be skillfully applied to create more proportionate and smooth feminine curves. For men, CoolSculpting can remove fat deposits to reveal the muscles underneath, for a more masculine appearance.
Age Requirement to Get CoolSculpting
Technically, there is no an exact age limit at which you can get CoolSculpting. However, it is important that the patient’s body has finished growing and developing. For this reason CoolSculpting is typically only performed on people over the age of 18.
There is absolutely no upper age limit for CoolSculpting, as long as the patient is in good health and has clearance from their doctor. We have even seen women in their 70s and 80s enjoy the benefits of CoolSculpting fat removal! It’s never too late to get the body you’ve always wanted.
Weight Limit for CoolSculpting
Generally CoolSculpting works best on patients who are no more than 30 (to maybe 40) pounds above their ideal weight. CoolSculpting treats areas of excess fat and/or noticeable bulges but is not designed as an overall weight loss method.
With CoolSculpting patient’s focus should be on losing inches in the desired area. It is not an appropriate weight loss method for obese individuals.
Medical Conditions and CoolSculpting
Because CoolSculpting is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure – requiring no incisions and no anesthesia – it does not interfere with many medical conditions. However, because it is medical treatment, anyone with an underlying medical condition should consult with their personal physician. Patients should also inform Dr. Ali of any underlying medical conditions they have.
There is a very small number of rare medical conditions that do completely prevent a patient from getting CoolSculpting altogether, including: cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria.
If you do have a pre existing medical condition, talk to your doctor before scheduling CoolSculpting.
Areas of the Body CoolSculpting Can Treat
In the United States CoolSculpting is FDA-approved for the treatment of stubborn fat deposits in the following body areas: abdomen (belly), inner & outer thighs, flanks (love handles), back (bra rolls), buttocks (hips), and upper arms, as well as fat in and around the chin and neck (submental area).
For men, in some cases Coolsculpting may also be used to remove fat from “male breasts” (pseudo gynecomastia). However, if there is excess breast tissue as opposed to fat, other removal treatments that we offer at our Birmingham, MI Surgical Center might be a better option.
