In this article we discuss how the Nordlys Ellipse IPL laser treats fingernail and toenail fungus and fungal infections.
How IPL Laser Nail Fungus Treatments Work
Nail fungus – technically called onychomycosis – can affect fingernails and toe nails. Nail fungus can caused a single nail or several to become thickened, brittle, crumbly, discolored or ragged. In addition to being unattractive, nail fungus can be painful. If you suffer from nail fungus, you are not alone – roughly 20 percent of the adult population gets onychomycosis!
Fortunately, the Nordlys Ellipse IPL Laser treatments offer clinically proven, safe, fast, painless and effective laser treatment of nail fungus.
The Ellipse treatment is much more effective than topical solutions. It also is just as effective as oral antifungal medications, but without the side effects associated with systemic antifungal drugs.
The Ellipse IPL Laser uses a “painting” technique to apply several pulsed light shots per second, across the whole nail, cuticle and nail folds. Five laser passes are made per nail.
The Ellipse computerized counter keeps track of each pass, administering lasers to a 4mm spot combined with short sub-millisecond pulses. The fast repetition rate makes it possible to have all 10 nails treated in only 10 minutes.
Additionally, Ellipse’s patented SoftCoolTM cooling system ensures that the laser treatment is virtually pain-free. A continuous jet of cool air is breezed across the treatment area, keeping nails comfortable, while still allowing the nail-bed to reach the temperature neede to kill the fungal infection.
Heating the fungus is one factor in destroying the fungal cells, while the sub-millisecond pulse adds a “photo-acoustic” effect to the treatment, further weakening the cells of the fungus.
