4 Facts You Need to Know When Getting Microblading
At AMAE Med Spa, we offer our patients the best, most natural-looking microblading results available in the Troy, MI area. But, just like any other aesthetic procedure, there are a few things every prospective microblading patient should keep in mind before receiving treatment. In this article, board certified Troy, MI area plastic surgeon Dr. Ali explains four facts everyone should know before getting microblading.
#1. Microblading is Semi-Permanent
While factors such as sun exposure, skin type, and lifestyle all contribute to how long an individual treatment lasts, results from microblading can last as long as a year or more. The ink used for microblading is degradable, meaning it is designed to fade with time. In this way, microneedling differs from tattooing, which -unless removed through laser treatment- is permanent.
As time goes on, the body will slowly absorb the microblading pigment, causing it to fade. The semi-permanent results of microblading give patients the option of trying different styles of eyebrows at a later date.
Some microblading patients find that their brows last longer than a year, while others may choose to return to our Troy, MI area Med Spa once or twice a year for a touchup.
Your skin tone, how well your skin absorbs and retains pigment, perspiration/exertion, and exposure to sun, wind, smoke and other environmental factors can all affect the longevity of your microbladed eyebrows.
#2. A Good Aesthetician Takes Time When Microblading
Out of everything that makes for a successful microblading appointment, perhaps no other element is more crucial than drawing the eyebrows to the perfect shape, proportion and angles. Our skilled team of aestheticians take the time and care required to create eyebrows that perfectly compliment the patient’s face in terms of size, placement, and angle. Since this requires meticulous attention to detail, this part of the microblading process can take as long as an hour or more.
Then, over the course of the next hour or so, hundreds of tiny, realistic-looking strokes of “hair” are created by depositing pigment into the treatment area.
Microblading patients can generally expect to visit our Troy, MI area Med Spa at least twice: once for their initial appointment, followed by an additional (significantly shorter) session to touch up, fill in, and generally perfect the results of the treatment.
#3. Not Everyone is a Candidate for Microblading
Women (and men!) of all ages are able to get thicker, fuller eyebrows thanks to microblading. At AMAE Med Spa in the Troy, MI area, our microblading patients range in age from 18 to almost 80. Anyone dissatisfied with the shape, thickness, or position of their natural eyebrows can address their concerns through microblading.
Microblading can be a particularly powerful experience for cancer survivors. Patients who have lost their eyebrows as a result of chemotherapy are able to restore them through microblading. Individuals affected by trichotillomania or alopecia may also find relief through microblading.
With all that in mind, certain pre-existing medical conditions can potentially prevent a person from safely undergoing microblading. Expectant mothers and women who are breastfeeding should not get microblading, nor should individuals prone to developing scars or keloids.
But as long as a person has been deemed fit to do so by their primary care doctor, patients suffering from a great many other serious medical conditions -including diabetes, cancer, or epilepsy- may still get microblading!
#4. Microblading Isn’t Painful
Since microblading is performed by scratching the surface of the skin, we begin the procedure by applying a local anesthetic to the treatment area. Consequently, patients are able to enjoy a pain-free microblading experience.
Microblading patients often describe the physical sensation of the procedure as being “unique,” but not at all painful. Additionally, somewhat surprising ly to patients – the microblading process can cause patients to sneeze during the procedure. This results from the pressure being applied to the facial nerves and, while surprising, is a perfectly normal reaction to the microblading treatment.
Dr. Ali ensures that all of his microblading patients to have a comfortable, satisfying experience. A visit to our Troy, MI area Med Spa ensures the best care a microblading patient could hope for.
