How to Choose a Microblading Spa or Salon
Microblading is a method of applying semi-permanent cosmetics to create gorgeous, natural looking eyebrows. Sometimes called “3D” eyebrows, having your eyebrows microbladed can be life-changing! Imagine, waking up in the morning, stepping out of shower, or finishing a strenuous workout – and your eyebrows still look full, beautiful and perfectly shaped.
But the “flip-side” to feeling fantastic about your eyebrows can occur when you go to the WRONG microblading spa. Remember, microblading is semi-permanent, and your new eyebrows will last for more than a year! So if you trust your eyebrows to someone who is NOT an experienced and skilled professional, you can end up with nightmare eyebrows.
Medical aesthetician Ramona offers the absolute best, most natural looking approach to eyebrow enhancement in our Troy, MI area Birmingham MedSpa. In this article she shares some tips on how to choose a a Microblading Spa or Salon.
Choose a Microblading Med Spa Not a Hair Salon
Microblading is a medical procedure, in that tiny incisions are made in the eyebrows, into which pigment is inserted. Having your eyebrows microbladed in a Med Spa ensures sanitary conditions – and medical grade equipment and numbing – that simply can’t be guaranteed in a hair salon. And never, ever, go to a “home salon” for microblading!
Going to a Med Spa helps ensure that your procedure is 100% comfortable, and that there is no chance for an infection.
Look at Microblading Before and After Photos
One of the best ways to ensure that an aesthetician knows what she is doing, is to look at their microblading before and after photos. If an aesthetician does not have an extensive gallery of pictures showing her work, you have no idea of knowing what her microblading looks like.
In the before and after photos look for the following signs of an exceptional microblading technician:
- Extremely fine hair strokes
It takes a very light and gentle touch to acheive pigment strokes that are as fine as a hair width. Many aestheticians push too hard or deep, resulting in thick lines that look more like “tattoos” than eyebows.
- Eyebrow color that matches existing eyebrow hair, skintone & hair color
It’s very common for inexperienced aestheticians to take a “one color fits all” approach to microblading. Typically this results in eyebrows that are too dark to look natural….and end up looking, well, scary.
If you have olive skin tone, you may be able to pull-off big black eyebrows like the Kardashians. But if your coloring is more fair, like microblading-fan Gwen Stefani, you will want to opt for lighter brown eyebrows like she did.

- Eyebrow shape that complements face shape and features
When you look at before and after photos, make sure your aesthetician doesn’t amake everybody’s eyebows the same shape. Just as different colors work with differnt skin tones, different eyebrow shapes are better (or worse) for different face and eye shapes.
For example, arched eyebrows can make a round face appear slimmer – while horizontal eyebrows can make a long face appear less narrow. A talented aesthetician can also shape your eyebrows to make small eyes appear bigger, or close-set eyes look farther apart.
